Landmark national projects shaping Vietnam’s future

VOV.VN - As the nation marks the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), a series of major national infrastructure projects are being completed, serving both as a symbol of resilience and aspiration and as driving forces for Vietnam’s integration and development.

One notable milestone is the inauguration of the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge across the Tien River, officially opened to traffic on August 19. The bridge links Dong Thap and Vinh Long provinces, fulfilling a long-held aspiration of residents in the Mekong Delta. Locals have expressed excitement that the new bridge makes travel easier, eases congestion, and promises fresh momentum for regional growth.

The sense of joy is shared nationwide, as landmark infrastructure projects continue to come online on schedule, offering timely gifts to mark the 80th anniversary celebrations. From expressways to ports, airports, and energy facilities, these works highlight the government’s determination, the coordination of ministries and localities, and the tireless efforts of thousands of engineers and workers.

From Lang Son to Ca Mau, new stretches of expressway are opening, advancing the goal of reaching 3,000 kilometers of highways by 2025, as outlined in Party resolutions. Projects such as the North–South Expressway, Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3, Hanoi’s Ring Road 4, and routes connecting the Central Highlands and northern mountainous provinces are not only shortening travel distances but also creating new “avenues of opportunity” for trade, tourism, and competitiveness.

In April, the Hateco International Container Terminal (HHIT) in Hai Phong began operations, Vietnam’s first deep-water port financed entirely through private investment, finalized two months ahead of schedule. This landmark project enhances Vietnam’s shipping capacity, links directly with major global ports, reduces logistics costs, and strengthens state budget revenues.

Modern seaports such as Lach Huyen in Hai Phong and Cai Mep–Thi Vai in Ho Chi Minh City are now able to receive vessels of hundreds of thousands of tons, connecting Vietnam directly to international shipping lanes. Alongside these developments, inland container depots, warehouses, and logistics hubs are being expanded, ensuring Vietnamese goods reach Europe and the Americas more quickly and efficiently.

Urban transport is also making strides. Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien) is emerging as a new symbol of modern urban life. Meanwhile, the Long Thanh International Airport project remains on track to complete its first phase in December, while groundwork is being laid for the North–South high-speed railway.

In the energy sector, major projects such as the Hoa Binh Hydropower expansion, offshore wind farms, and multi-billion-dollar gas power plants are reinforcing energy security and accelerating the transition to green, sustainable sources.

The 500kV national grid is also expanding, with the Lao Cai–Vinh Yen transmission line, set for completion on August 19, poised to become an “energy expressway” delivering electricity from production hubs to key economic regions.

Digital infrastructure is advancing in parallel. Telecom giants are rolling out nationwide 5G networks, fiber-optic systems, and data centers. On August 4, VNPT launched the VSTN terrestrial cable line, the first to connect Vietnam directly to Singapore entirely by land. The 3,900-kilometer route spans five countries, enhancing security, reducing latency, and strengthening digital sovereignty. This is regarded as a crucial step in building modern digital infrastructure to support Vietnam’s digital economy and society.

Experts note that these achievements show the Party’s strategic vision of infrastructure as a cornerstone of national development. From transport to energy to digital connectivity, Vietnam’s landmark projects are weaving together the portrait of a dynamic, modern nation. They embody the will, wisdom, and unity of the people, paving the way toward the aspiration of a prosperous, strong, and thriving Vietnam.
