Indusfood opens gateway for Vietnamese food products to India

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Trade Office in India held a webinar titled “Promoting Vietnam-India Cooperation in Food and Beverage (F&B) at Indusfood,” attracting wide participation from businesses, industry associations, importers, and trade partners from both countries.

Opening the webinar, Bui Trung Thuong, Trade Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy in India, provided an overview of the Indian market, laying stress on a population of over 1.45 billion, a rapidly expanding middle class, and strong demand for processed foods, beverages, high-quality agricultural products, and items meeting health and safety standards.

This presents a major opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises, especially in key sectors such as coffee, cashew, pepper, processed seafood, packaged foods, beverages, and value-added products, he added.

The webinar also highlighted  Indusfood as an effective trade promotion platform, enabling Vietnamese companies to directly connect with importers, distribution chains, retail networks, and e-commerce platforms in India, thereby expanding market reach and establishing long-term partnerships.

At the event, Sachin Kumar, Deputy Head of Trade Promotion and Government Relations at the India Trade Promotion Council, noted that Indusfood is India’s leading annual F&B trade fair, held since 2017 under the sponsorship of India’s Ministry of Commerce.

The fair serves as a crucial gateway for international products, including Vietnamese goods, to enter the Indian market. Originally a platform linking Indian producers with global buyers, Indusfood has evolved into South Asia’s largest “farm-to-table” event.

Indusfood 2025 brought together over 1,800 Indian companies, more than 200 international enterprises, and over 20 national pavilions, creating a comprehensive network with importers, supermarket chains, and the region’s largest e-commerce platforms.

With an exhibition space exceeding 80,000 m², the fair attracted over 7,500 global buyers, including more than 100 top retail chains and online distributors, offering opportunities for contract signing, agency establishment, and deeper penetration into India’s distribution system. Indusfood facilitates business connections through B2B and G2G activities, buyer programs, and international culinary demonstrations by professional chefs.

It is widely recognized as a key channel for foreign companies, including Vietnamese firms, to directly access India’s distribution networks, importers, and retail chains.

The webinar’s discussion and Q&A sessions were lively, focusing on topics of interest to businesses, such as buyer programs, booth costs, recommended product categories, import regulations, food standards, market entry strategies, trade fair experience, and partner search in India.

According to Trade Counsellor Bui Trung Thuong, as Vietnam and India approach the 10th anniversary of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2026, the economic–trade–science and technology pillar will be a key highlight, with the F&B sector emerging as an important area for cooperation, aligning with both countries’ strategies to diversify markets and supply chains.

He advised Vietnamese companies to proactively research the market, prepare documentation and quality standards, plan approaches to partners, and utilize support from the Vietnam Trade Office in India to participate effectively in Indusfood 2026.
