Vietnam, India share green processing models at World Food India 2025

Vietnam, as the Focus Country of the 2025 World Food India (WFI) in New Delhi, hosted a panel on sustainable food processing and carbon neutrality on September 26.

The session focused on solutions to advance green production, scale up biotechnonogy application, spur cross-border investment and shape an eco-friendly food processing industry.

Kicking off the discussion, Bui Trung Thuong, Commercial Counselor at the Vietnamese Embassy in India, called for deeper collaboration among nations and businesses to drive sustainable production and slash emissions. He tied the panel’s focus to WFI 2025’s broader mission, where global companies and organisations share insights, forge partnerships, and craft new initiatives for the global supply chain.

Vietnamese and Indian speakers presented research and case studies on innovation-driven food processing that meet international commitments like carbon neutrality, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and responsible value chains. Business representatives from both countries pitched tie-ups on technology transfer, sustainable packaging, renewable energy application and bilateral supply chain development, while proposing a regular policy dialogue among governments, industry associations and enterprises.

A standout moment came when Phan Thanh Loc, Founder and Chairman of Vietnam Food JSC (VNF), took the floor with a presentation titled “Turning Waste into Wealth. He outlined a circular economy model that transforms shrimp by-products into new revenue streams, cutting greenhouse-gas emissions and creating sustainable value chains for seafood and other industries.

Vietnam and India, both major shrimp exporters, grapple with managing hundreds of thousands of tonnes of shrimp heads and shells annually. Loc stressed that VNF’s approach not only promotes sustainability but also shields exporters from looming carbon taxes.
