HCM City explores trade opportunities with Iran

VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City officials met with an Iranian delegation comprised of 20 businessmen today (Apr. 21), who are on a 5-day trade mission to Vietnam to seek ways to improve business relations.

The Iranian delegation is led by Gholamhossein Shafei, the President of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture and the visit is being made at the invitation of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Iran established diplomatic ties with Vietnam in 1973. Since then the two countries have had mutual cooperation. Iran opened its embassy in Vietnam in 1991 and Vietnam reciprocated with the opening of an embassy in Iran six years later.

However, trade between the two countries has been miniscule relative to its fullest potential impeded by cultural and language barriers among a host of other impediments. The Iranian delegation is in Ho Chi Minh City to attend a business forum.
