Iran, Vietnam target US$2 billion trade revenue

VOV.VN -Both nations have pledged favorable conditions for their businesses to invest in each country to raise bilateral trade revenue to US$2 billion in the time ahead.

President Tran Dai Quang told Gholamhossein Shafei the trade target at an April 20 reception in Hanoi for Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines and Agriculture of Iran Gholam Hossein Shafei.

The State leader said the two sides concurred to step up bilateral economic, trade, investment cooperation across oil and gas, telecommunications, agriculture and fisheries, adding that Vietnam could export quality products to Iran at competitive prices, such as rice, tea, coffee, cashew nut, pepper, rubber, motorbike and bicycle spare parts.

President Quang said bilateral trade revenue of US$116 million last year was still below cooperation potential. Vietnam can export to Iran its staples, such as rice, tea, coffee, cashew nuts, and motorbike spare parts, at competitive prices and quality.

Iran’s key export products are petroleum, chemicals, and elastic materials.

Quang said Vietnam welcomes Iranian businesses and offers conditions for Iranian people and businesses to seek investment opportunities in Vietnam.

Gholamhossein Shafei stressed that his nation will have a chance to access an over-90-million-people market when investing in Vietnam, adding that Vietnam stands ready to act as a bridge linking Iran and ASEAN market with a 600 million-plus population and tens of other markets with which Vietnam will sign free trade agreements.

He told Quang that both sides pledged to set up the Vietnam-Iran Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with offices expected to be inaugurated in the coming time.
