Cashew industry targets US$4.5 billion in exports for 2025
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s cashew industry has set an export target of US$4.5 billion for 2025, a 2.7% increase from the previous year, with strong first-half results putting the goal within reach, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
In the first six months of 2025, cashew exports reached 346,800 tonnes worth US$2.36 billion, down 2.7% in volume but up 20.4% in value year-on-year. June alone saw 70,000 tonnes exported, generating US$475.4 million.
The average export price rose sharply to US$6,805 per tonne, up 23.8% from the same period in 2024. China, the US, and the Netherlands remained the top buyers, accounting for 22%, 21.6%, and 8.4% of total export value, respectively.
Notably, May recorded the highest monthly export volume to China in the past three years. Over five months, Vietnam shipped 65,790 tonnes of cashews worth US$414.94 million to the Chinese market, up 21.7% in volume and 41.2% in value. Export prices to China also climbed 16% to US$6,307 per tonne, higher than to the US.
This trend indicates strong and rising demand, especially from China, bolstering Vietnam’s position and signaling positive prospects for the second half of the year. Exports to other markets such as the Netherlands, UAE, Japan, the Philippines, and India also showed promising growth.
According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien, achieving the US$4.5 billion target will require tapping both traditional and emerging markets. He highlighted the EU as the third-largest market after the US and China, with growing demand in recent years.
Tien urged businesses to meet strict EU standards on origin, traceability, deep processing, and branding. Meanwhile, sustaining growth in the Chinese market will depend on stable supply, improved quality, product diversification, and compliance with tightening technical requirements.
