Vietnam tops global cashew exports for 18th year
VOV.VN - Vietnam's cashew export sector continues to maintain its dominant position with impressive growth, according to the General Department of Customs.
The country’s cashew export volume in 2024 is estimated to reach about 730,000 tons, valued at US$4.37 billion, indicating a significant increase compared to the previous year. Vietnamese cashew nuts are now present in over 90 countries and territories worldwide.
Exports to major markets such as the United States and China have seen strong growth. Exports to the US reached over 179,000 tons, valued at US$1.07 billion, marking a notable increase compared to the same period last year. Similarly, exports to China also showed significant growth in both quantity and value.
In addition to major markets, Vietnam's cashew industry has successfully tapped into the EU markets, with stable growth in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain.
Tran Huu Hau, vice Secretary General of the Vietnam Cashew Association, confirmed that Vietnam continues to be the world's largest exporter of cashew nuts for the 18th consecutive year, accounting for over 80% of the global cashew nut export volume. This success is attributed to the rapid development of the cashew processing industry, where modern technology has replaced manual labor, helping Vietnam maintain its leading position.
Vietnam also spends a significant amount importing raw cashew nuts from other countries, especially Cambodia, the largest supplier, with Vietnam importing 98% of Cambodia's total raw cashew nut production. African countries like Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana are also important suppliers.
Forecasts suggest that the global cashew industry will continue to grow in the coming years, providing Vietnam with opportunities to maintain its number one position in cashew nut exports.
