US remains largest buyer of Vietnamese cashew nuts in 2024
VOV.VN - The United States spent nearly US$1.2 billion on purchasing nearly 192,200 tonnes of cashew nuts from Vietnam last year, up 21.3% in volume and 30.3% in value year on year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Overall, the Vietnamese products made up about 98% of the total volume of cashew nuts imported into the US.
Meanwhile, cashew exports to this market accounted for 26.6% of Vietnam’s total export turnover last year.
Figures indicate that the country exported nearly 724,000 tonnes of cashew nuts worth US$4.34 billion last year, up 12.4% in volume and 19.2% in value.
This is a record figure for the Vietnamese cashew industry that has managed to retain its position as the leading exporter in the world over the past 18 years, accounting for over 80% of the global total cashew nut export volume.
Furthermore, the cashew sector also racked up a trade surplus of US$1.12 billion last year.
Experts say there remains ample room ahead for local firms to boost cashew nut exports in the future due to the development of the food processing sector, changing consumer lifestyles, as well as the demand for convenient foods from major markets including the US.
