Cai Mep port remains 7th among the world’s most efficient container ports

VOV.VN - Cai Mep port in Vietnam has retained its 7th position among 403 of the world’s most efficient container terminals and port clusters, according to the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2020-2024, recently released by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence.

The port outperformed several well-known hubs such as Hong Kong (China), Yokohama (Japan), and Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia).

Hai Phong Port also made an impressive leap, climbing 40 spots to enter the global top 30 and earning recognition among the ports with the strongest improvements. Meanwhile, Saigon, Cat Lai, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, and Chu Lai ports also appeared in the rankings.

According to S&P Global, the fifth edition of the CPPI provides a comprehensive global benchmark of 403 container ports, drawing on a robust dataset that includes more than 175,000 vessel calls and 247 million container moves. It highlights total vessel time in port as a key indicator of operational efficiency, which is vital to assessing the resilience and reliability of global trade.

This year’s CPPI introduces multi-year trend analysis for the first time, offering deeper insight into how individual ports have evolved over the past five years. The addition provides valuable perspectives on whether ports have improved, declined, or remained steady in their performance.

Earlier, three Vietnamese seaports-Ho Chi Minh City Port, Hai Phong Port, and Cai Mep Port- were also listed among the world’s top 100 busiest container ports in 2025 by the UK-based Lloyd’s List. Their combined throughput surpassed 23.2 million TEUs in 2024, placing Vietnam sixth worldwide in container handling.
