AI and 5G networks usher in new era for Vietnam’s digital economy
VOV.VN - A workshop themed “Empowering Digital Economy Growth in the New Era” took place in Hanoi on November 25, focusing on the role of AI and 5G integration in driving Vietnam’s next phase of digital economic expansion.
The event, hosted by the Finance – Investment Newspaper, brought together policymakers, international organizations, and business leaders.
Discussions centred on new drivers of Vietnam’s digital economic growth, the transformative convergence of 5G and AI across industries, and opportunities for Vietnam to leverage this technological wave to expand its development space.
In his opening speech, Pham Van Hoanh, Editor-in-Chief of the Finance – Investment Newspaper, emphasised that 2025 marks a pivotal turning point, opening a new era of national growth. Vietnam, he noted, is presented with a historic opportunity to break through and become a developed nation.
Vietnam views science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as core drivers for escaping the middle-income trap and achieving high-income status. In the age of AI, big data, and the digital economy, knowledge and technology have become the country’s most critical production resources.
The convergence of 5G and AI is emerging as a global trend, forming the backbone of innovation in fields such as smart manufacturing, high-tech agriculture, and logistics – the sectors poised to accelerate digital economic growth.
“We are witnessing unprecedented global shifts, from geopolitics and geoeconomics to strategic competition, technological breakthroughs, and challenges such as climate change and energy security. These dynamics bring both opportunities and risks for all nations,” Hoanh said.
Despite notable progress in Vietnam’s digital economy, significant challenges remain. Effective coordination among government agencies and the business community is essential for meeting national targets. The workshop therefore aimed to review Vietnam’s digital transformation journey, assess new growth drivers and market trends, and identify emerging development opportunities for industries and enterprises, he noted.
With the participation of policymakers and domestic and international enterprises, the event serves as a platform for dialogue between state agencies and businesses, connecting investment opportunities and offering practical recommendations for stakeholders.
Vietnam issued its first National AI Strategy in 2021, which is currently being updated. By the end of this year, an updated AI Strategy and an AI Law are expected, demonstrating not just a legal framework but a national vision in which AI becomes a foundational “intellectual infrastructure,” supporting citizens, ensuring sustainable development, and strengthening national competitiveness.
To further accelerate the digital economy, Vietnam has introduced four breakthrough strategic resolutions. These “four pillars” focus on science and technology policy, international integration, legal system reform, and private-sector development, opening new space for robust market and business growth.
Together, these institutional foundations form a powerful driver for Vietnam’s advancement in the new era, supporting the country’s vision of becoming a developed, high-income economy by 2045.
