Agro-forestry-fishery exports jump nearly 30% in January
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery sector posted an estimated US$6.51 billion in export earnings in January, marking a sharp rise of 29.5% compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
Agricultural products accounted for the largest share, with export value achieving about US$3.6 billion, up 41.8%. Livestock product exports brought back US$47.5 million, up 20.2% while fishery exports fetched US$940 million, up 21.5%. Forestry products generated approximately US$1.72 billion, rising 13% year on year.
Asia was Vietnam’s largest export market for agro-forestry-fishery products, making up 45.3% of total export value. The Americas followed with 22.7%, and Europe with 13.4%. Africa and Oceania held smaller shares, at 2.6% and 1.4%, respectively.
Compared to January last year, export value to Asia rose sharply by 41.1%, while shipments to the Americas and Europe increased by 22.4% and 11.2%, respectively. Exports to Africa and Oceania also recorded notable growth, rising by 21.6% and 32.3%, respectively.
China, the United States, and Japan were the three largest consumers of Vietnamese products, accounting for 22.6%, 20.4%, and 7% of market shares, respectively.
Exports to China surged by 66.1% year on year while exports to the United States and Japan increased by 21.6% and 19.6%, respectively.
Key agricultural products posting strong growth included coffee, rubber, tea, rice, fruits and vegetables, cashew nuts and pepper. Coffee exports hit 180,000 tonnes, valued at US$981 million, while rubber exports totaled 220,000 tonnes, worth US$416 million.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment emphasised that expanding markets and boosting consumption remain key priorities, alongside restructuring the agricultural sector to enhance value addition, sustainability, food safety and traceability across the entire value chain.
