War film “Red Rain” continues award run with Mai Vang honour

VOV.VN - The Vietnamese war film “Red Rain” has continued its successful awards run, receiving an honour at the Mai Vang Awards (Golden Apricot Blossom Awards) after winning top prizes at several other major film festivals.

At the awards ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 29, Red Rain was named Best Feature Film, beating strong contenders including Địa Đạo (The Tunnel), Nhà gia tiên (Ancestral Home), Thám tử Kiên (Detective Kien) and and Tử chiến trên không (Hijacked).

Earlier, Red Rain also won multiple awards at the 24th Vietnam Film Festival. It was granted the Golden Lotus Award for Best Feature Film and awarded Best Supporting Actor for Phương Nam, Best Sound, Best Production Design and Best Visual Effects.

The film also claimed the Golden Kite Award for feature film at the 2025 Golden Kite Awards ceremony and was also eligible to be on a list of submissions to the 98th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film.

Red Rain, a war epic produced by the People’s Army Cinema and inspired by the 81-day battle to defend the Quang Trị Ancient Citadel in 1972 released in August, 2025, set a record with VND700 billion (US$26.6 million) in revenue, making it the highest-grossing Vietnamese film of all time.

The film depicts a brutal battle that became a symbol of resilience and the yearning for liberation and independence. The story also describes the human side of war: longing for family, friendships forged in the trenches and quiet moments of hope amid destruction.

In addition, a number of talented artists in film, music and theatre were also honoured at the annual Mai Vang Awards.
