Vietnamese pianist to give solo performance of Liszt’s full “Transcendental Études” in Hanoi
VOV.VN -Talented pianist Luu Hong Quang Luu Hong Quang will return to Vietnam to present a solo recital titled “Thanh am vuot tang” (Resonance Beyond Layers), performing the full set of 12 “Transcendental Études” by Franz Liszt, one of the most remarkable achievements in piano music.
The recital will take place at 8:00 p.m. on May 8 at the Grand Concert Hall of the Vietnam National Academy of Music in Hanoi.
The performance is part of the artist’s annual return to Vietnam and is included in the VIPCF Laureate & Master Series within the framework of the Vietnam International Piano Competition (VIPCF), which presents international artists alongside prize-winning performers.
The event also marks the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam National Academy of Music (1956-2026), where Luu Hong Quang received his early training.
The “Transcendental Études” are considered one of the most remarkable achievements in piano music. The cycle of 12 works is known for its technical demands and scale, requiring sustained concentration when performed in full.
Luu Hong Quang first performed the complete set in Vietnam in 2022. His annual return performances are prepared with particular care, with his home country remaining a key source of motivation in his artistic career.
Born in 1990, Luu Hong Quang is one of the talented pianists of his generation. He trained at the Vietnam National Academy of Music before continuing his studies on a full scholarship at a music and performing arts academy in Australia, and later completing a master’s degree at the University of Montreal under the guidance of Dang Thai Son.
He has received a number of international awards and performed in countries including New Zealand, Australia, Vietnam, China, Hungary, Austria and Japan, and has collaborated with many renowned orchestras. His CD recording of Liszt’s “Transcendental Études,” released by Rattle, has been widely praised.
