Vietnamese horror films gain popularity in Asia
VOV.VN - A diverse array of Vietnamese horror movies were introduced at the 29th International Film and Television Market (FILMART) held from March 17 to 20 in Hong Kong (China), receiving positive responses from international critics.

Apart from concert films such as "Anh trai say hi: The villain creates a hero" and “We are Vietnamese”, other horror movies, including Nha Gia Tien (Ancestral Home) and Chi dau (Sister-in-law), that have reaped great success at local cinemas in recent times also made their first debut at the event.
Furthermore, Vietnam-based sales agent Skyline Media also focused on horror and thriller projects such as The Fatal Dealz, which exploits the theme of high technology and AI crime; Gemini, Vietnam's first horror film about twins in the womb; Nam muoi (The Silent Game), a thriller that exploits the theme of body shaming and the dangers of social networks; and Co dau ma (The Bride), a collaboration between Vietnam and Thailand.
On the dominance of the horror category at FILMART this year, a representative of Skyline Media emphasised that horror and spiritual film genres have always captivated audiences, particularly within the Asian market, fueled by its deep-rooted culture and belief systems.
With regard to partners’ reactions, the representative noted overwhelmingly positive feedback from international customers at the event. Specifically, several partners from Taiwan (China), the Republic of Korea, Southeast Asia, India, and Latin America all showed a keen interest in the Vietnamese horror films.
They held that Vietnamese films boast not only increasingly good production quality, but also possess unique cultural elements, creating a difference compared to film products from Hollywood and other countries in the region, added the representative.
However, the representative underlined the need for continued focus on script development, attractive storytelling, and enhanced post-production to further expand the reach of Vietnamese films.
