Vietnamese horror film eligible for Rotterdam Film Festival’s Limelight nomination

VOV.VN - Vietnamese horror film "Cám" (The Sisters) has met the criteria for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR)’s Limelight nomination that feature exceptional premieres of films expected in Dutch art-house cinemas later in the year.

The film by blockbuster director Tran Huu Tan and produced by Hoang Quan is based on the famous fairy tale entitled “Tấm Cám” (The Sisters Tấm and Cám).

Born with unusual facial features, Cám suffers the abuse of her family quietly. But when her father decides to sacrifice her to a mythical forest monster, Cám sets out to burn down the world. A macabre fairytale set in mediaeval Vietnam, IFFR’s website wrote.

The producers revealed that Cám grossed a total of VND117 billion from its domestic release and streaming platforms. The horror version also reached 1,000,000 viewers in just 2 weeks of screening in theaters across Vietnam.

The film will compete in the Limelight category together with other 30 films worldwide. This category features critically acclaimed and award-winning films from other festivals, showcasing works of high artistic value and offering unique perspectives on life.

They are set to be released in cinemas across the Netherlands following the festival, aiming to cultivate closer relationships with Dutch distributors and filmmakers.

First held in 1972, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) focuses on independent and experimental films. This year the event is scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from January 30 to February 9.

A film crew of "Cám" will take part in two film screenings and have an exchange with audiences and international filmmakers.
