Vietnamese circus duo wins gold at inaugural festival in Tajikistan

The four-day event, themed "The World of Circus Unites Hearts!”," ran from September 17 to 20, gathering participants from 14 countries and territories, including traditional circus powerhouses such as Russia, China, Mongolia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, and host Tajikistan.

The Vietnamese delegation competed with "Duo Love," an aerial act performed by Meritorious Artists Thanh Tuan and Thu Huong, with technical support from Thanh Hoa. People's Artist Tong Toan Thang, director of the Vietnam Circus Federation, served as the delegation's head and act director.

"Duo Love" has undergone continuous refinement through international competitions. In 2025, the pair secured a gold medal at the Almaty International Circus Festival in Kazakhstan and a silver medal at the "Without Borders" International Circus Competition in Russia. Earlier in 2026, the act earned a silver medal at a festival in Girona, Spain.

In Tajikistan, this process advanced a step further. Rather than solely conquering demanding stunts, the duo paid closer attention to emotional delivery, technical refinement, and the theatrical quality of their performance.

The jury awarded gold medals to "Duo Love" and a competitor from Russia, while entries from China, Mongolia, and Belarus took silver in respective categories.

"At every festival, we strive for the most polished and refined performance possible, not only for the jury but also for the Tajik audience," Thu Huong said following the awards ceremony.

Following the success, the act received an invitation to an international circus festival in Russia scheduled for 2027, opening opportunities for Vietnamese artists to exchange expertise and present their professional capacity to international peers.

The Vietnam Circus Federation reported that its artists have claimed five awards at international events since the beginning of 2026, demonstrating ongoing efforts to elevate artistic standards and expand the global profile of Vietnamese circus arts.
