Vietnam wins Silver Crown at Princess of Circus Int’l Festival in Russia
VOV.VN - The thigh-perch balancing act “Angel from the Galaxy” by the Vietnam Circus Federation won a Silver Crown at the 2026 “Princess of Circus” International Festival held in Saratov, Russia from May 28-31.
This year’s festival brought together performers from 14 countries, featuring more than 20 acts competing for one Grand Prix, two Gold Crowns, three Silver Crowns and four Bronze Crowns.
Representing Vietnam, the “Angel from the Galaxy” act, directed by People’s Artist Tong Toan Thang, was performed by five female artists, including Thu Huong, Hong Yen, Cam Ly, Le Phuong and Thao Van.
Thang, director of the Vietnam Circus Federation and a member of the festival’s judging panel, shared that the act drew inspiration from the modern era, reflecting themes of technology, artificial intelligence and robotics.
The “female warriors” portrayed in the performance symbolised the power of science and technology while representing modern women empowered by new energy and creativity. Combining contemporary circus techniques with a distinctive artistic concept, the act left a strong impression on audiences and international experts alike.
Historically, Thang noted, the discipline has been performed mainly by male artists because of its demanding physical requirements. The challenge was heightened at this year's festival as all five performers were Vietnamese women.
The act also included complex techniques such as balancing the apparatus with the teeth, spinning props using the teeth and performing rotational movements using hair.
According to Thang, Vietnam’s entry stood out for its originality, with no similarities to any other act in the competition. Its unique concept and presentation made it difficult to compare with conventional circus performances, helping it establish a distinctive identity within the programme.
