Earlier in March, the act earned the Bronze Elephant Prize at the 2026 Festival Internacional del Circ Elefant d’Or (Elefant d’Or International Circus Festival) in Girona, Spain, highlighting the rising global presence of Vietnamese circus arts.

The performance blends traditional Vietnamese culture with modern circus techniques. The four female artists – People’s Artists Lo Thuy, Pham Huong, Hong Thuy, and Luu Huong – combined graceful conical hat choreography with high-flying acrobatics, including feats of exceptional technical difficulty such as hanging by their hair and using their teeth for strength during partner stunts. The iconic Nón Lá (Vietnamese palm-leaf conical hat) serves as both a cultural symbol and a key prop in the act.

The 2026 Elefant d’Or Festival, held from February 27 to March 3, gathered 75 artists from 18 countries worldwide. According to People’s Artist Tong Toan Thang, the Vietnamese performers impressed the judges with their skill, artistry, and daring acrobatic stunts.

The Monte Carlo International Circus Festival, held annually since 1974 in mid-January, is one of Europe’s most prestigious circus events. It attracts top acrobats, clowns, and animal tamers from around the world, competing for renowned awards such as the Silver Clown and Gold Clown, presented in person by members of the royal family.
