Vietnam starts vote for Top 10 Cultural, Sports and Tourism Events of 2025

VOV.VN - Văn Hóa (Culture) Newspaper under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, held a press conference in Hanoi on December 23 to launch the voting for the Top 10 Outstanding Cultural, Sports and Tourism Events of 2025.

The Organising Committee had received 135 nominations from 50 agencies and organisations nationwide. Based on these submissions, a working panel convened to review and vote, selecting 30 notable events. From this shortlist, the Organising Committee further narrowed the list to 15 events, which were reported to the Ministry’s leadership and submitted for the final vote to determine the Top 10 outstanding events of 2025.

Participants in the voting process include representatives of central and local news agencies and media organisations.

Speaking at the press conference, Nguyen Anh Vu, Editor-in-Chief of Văn Hóa Newspaper and head of the Organising Committee, noted that 2025 witnessed many significant national events, with the culture, sports and tourism sector recording numerous highlights. In particular, the strong resurgence of performing arts left a profound impression on public opinion.

Vu emphasised that a key breakthrough in 2025 was progress in institution-building and policy making, which has helped unlock resources for cultural development. The year also saw the establishment of two new organisations - the Vietnam Cultural Industries Development Association and the Vietnam Ao Dai Culture Association - both of which contributed nominations to the voting programme.

In addition, many high-quality nominations came from relevant departments and agencies under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Meanwhile, Phan Thanh Nam, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Văn Hóa Newspaper and deputy head of the Organising Committee, stressed that the initiative is not merely a voting exercise, but also an opportunity for the community to reflect on memorable moments and the sustained, creative efforts of the culture, sports and tourism sector throughout 2025.

The programme helps reaffirm the role of culture, sports and tourism as soft power and a key driver of national development, he said.

Nam added that major highlights of the year were closely linked to institutional reforms, including amendments and improvements to the Press Law and the Advertising Law, as well as decisions approving the development of cultural industries. These achievements, he noted, are not only successes of 2025 but also represent outstanding milestones across the entire five-year term.

The list of 15 shortlisted events features a range of notable achievements, such as significant progress in institutional development, which emerged as a defining highlight of 2025 and a bright spot for the entire term; the national exhibition marking 80 years of National Day; and the continued elevation of Vietnam’s cultural heritage on the international stage, with four heritage elements across different categories recognised by UNESCO during the year.

The Top 10 Outstanding Cultural, Sports and Tourism Events of 2025 will be officially announced after the Organizing Committee consolidates results from both direct and online voting.

Online voting is getting underway via Văn Hóa Newspaper’s electronic edition, its official social media platforms, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s portal, from 8:00 a.m. on December 23 to 9:00 a.m. on December 25.
