Vietnam releases stamp series highlighting ceramic national treasures

Continuing the celebration and promotion of Vietnam's unique cultural heritage, the Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam Post have released a new stamp collection titled "National Treasures (Part 3): Ceramics" on July 28.

The stamp series, designed by artist Nguyen Du from Vietnam Post, consists of four stamps featuring significant ceramic artifacts: the Dau Ram Ceramic Vase, the Long Thanh Terracotta Vase Collection, the Nhon Thanh Ceramic Vase, and the Brown-Flower Ceramic Jar. Each stamp measures 37x37 mm.

The first stamp showcases the Dau Ram Ceramic Vase, an artifact identified as belonging to the late Phung Nguyen culture, dating back over 3,000 years. Discovered in 1998 at the Dau Ram archaeological site in Hoang Tan commune, Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh province, this unique artifact is currently housed at the Quang Ninh Museum and was recognized as a national treasure in December 2018.

The second stamp features the Long Thanh Terracotta Vase Collection, comprising 18 terracotta vases that reflect the artistic talent of the Sa Huynh culture. These artifacts, which highlight the development of terracotta craftsmanship, are preserved at the Quang Ngai General Museum and were recognized as national treasures in December 2018.

The third stamp depicts the Nhon Thanh Ceramic Vase, a rare intact artifact from the Oc Eo culture, showcasing the peak of ceramic craftsmanship and cultural exchanges with India during the mid-1st millennium. This artifact, preserved at the Can Tho Museum, was recognized as a national treasure in December 2018.

The fourth stamp presents the Brown-Flower Ceramic Jar, an artifact found at the Tran Temple site, a significant historical area dating back to the 13th-14th centuries. The jar, now housed at the National Museum of History, was recognized as a national treasure in December 2016.

National treasures are historical, cultural, and artistic artifacts of great significance to Vietnam. Each treasure is a valuable heritage piece, encapsulating the essence of Vietnam's rich and diverse culture, and reflecting its long history of resilience and development.

Artist Nguyen Du noted that the images of these treasures were provided by the Quang Ninh Museum, Can Tho Museum, Quang Ngai General Museum, and the National Museum of History, and were used to design the stamps. The new stamp collection will be available from July 28, 2024, to June 30, 2026.

Previously, two other stamp series under the "National Treasures" theme were released. The first series, "National Treasures (Part 1): Bronze Items," featured the Bronze Belt Buckle Set, Hop Minh Bronze Jar, Nui Nua Short Sword, and the Kneeling Figure Lamp.

The second series, "National Treasures (Part 2): Gold Items," included the Sac Menh Chi Bao Seal (1827), the Dai Viet National Nguyen Lords Seal (1709), the Ngọa Van-Yen Tu Gold Box (14th century), and the Nhan Tower Reliquary Box (7th-8th century).
