Vietnam Pavilion opens at TIFFCOM 2026

VOV.VN - For the second consecutive year, the Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA) has opened the Vietnam Pavilion at the TIFFCOM 2026 Content Market, held alongside the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF 2026).

Through this initiative, the VFDA continues to create a meeting point for Vietnamese filmmakers and international partners, while introducing opportunities for co-production, distribution, and filming location services in Vietnam.

The opening ceremony on October 28 was chaired by Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the VFDA, with the attendance of Pham Quang Hieu, Ambassador of Vietnam to Japan; Dao Trong Duc, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong Municipal People's Committee; Nguyen Thi Hanh, member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Head of the Commission for Popularization and Education of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee; along with representatives of film businesses, filmmakers, and international partners.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan shared that the VFDA aims for Vietnamese cinema and the country itself to have an annual presence at both the Tokyo International Film Festival and TIFFCOM. To turn this vision into reality, the association has proactively connected local authorities, enterprises, and accompanying partners, mobilizing resources to sustain promotional activities. The pavilion serves not only to promote the national image but also to become a "common house" where Vietnamese filmmakers and producers can meet partners, showcase their works, and seek cooperation opportunities whenever they come to Tokyo.

This year's pavilion also serves as a platform for Vietnamese producers to introduce new projects and reach international markets. A notable highlight is the animated feature project "Troubletoon: The Comet Race," presented by producer Luong Minh Hang and directed by Nguyen Phi Phi Anh, co-produced with Dee Dee Studio and with CGV as a strategic distribution partner.

Three key focal points prioritized by the VFDA at TIFFCOM this year are the 5th Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF V), the Production Attraction Index (PAI), and a database of filming locations across Quang Ninh, Da Nang, and Hai Phong.

The direct participation of local leaders helps link landscape promotion with discussions on film production conditions, while DANAFF serves as a contact point for filmmakers and international partners to maintain professional cooperation.

Alongside the pavilion, the VFDA will host a seminar titled "Vietnamese Cinema in a Connected Asia: Cultural Identity, Creativity, and International Cooperation" on October 29, expecting to draw filmmakers, producers, and experts from Japan, Vietnam, and around the world.

The event places Vietnamese cinema within practical issues of regional cooperation, focusing on how to preserve cultural identity while reaching partners for project development, co-production, and international market access."

TIFFCOM is one of Asia's leading content markets, gathering producers, distributors, investors, and rights holders from various markets. This year's event features 322 exhibitors and nearly 4,600 attendees from 46 countries and territories. Vietnam's continued presence at a professional market like TIFFCOM thus carries significance beyond a mere exhibition. The three-day event takes place from October 28 to 30 at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center in Japan.
