"Vietnam Night" in Tokyo promotes cinematic cooperation and investment opportunities

VOV.VN - More than 300 delegates, artists, filmmakers, culture agency representatives, and international partners gathered in Tokyo on the evening of October 29 for "Vietnam Night," held on the sidelines of the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF 2026).

The event, co-organized by the Vietnam Film Development Association (VFDA) and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, aimed to highlight Vietnamese cinema, local filming potential, and expand partnerships with Japanese and international counterparts.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of VFDA, emphasized the significance of bringing Vietnamese cinema to international forums. She noted that such platforms provide opportunities to introduce Vietnamese works and talents while expanding partner networks, fostering co-production and distribution, and attracting international film crews to Vietnam.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu laid stress on cinema’s vital role in deepening cultural exchange and bilateral friendship, while hailing VFDA’s proactive promotion efforts in Tokyo.

During the program, guests watched a promotional video introducing Vietnamese cinema and the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF). Footage featuring films, filmmakers, talent development efforts, and film industry networking demonstrated the growth and momentum of Vietnamese cinema, while introducing DANAFF as a forum to promote exchange and cooperation between Vietnamese filmmakers, the region, and the world.

At the same time, through direct meetings, Vietnamese filmmakers, organizations, and businesses had the opportunity to present their capabilities, learn about partner needs, and step-by-step turn initial contacts into concrete cooperation opportunities.

The participation of leaders from Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province highlighted local efforts to attract foreign film projects. Dao Trong Duc, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee, and Nguyen Thi Hanh, Head of the Propaganda and Education Board of the Quang Ninh Party Committee, presented their localities' scenic landscapes, heritage sites, and infrastructure, inviting global producers to explore project opportunities.

They stressed that beyond attractive filming locations, local authorities will actively provide information, connect focal points, and support foreign crews during location scouting and production.

VFDA’s promotional activities in Tokyo reaffirm cinema as a medium for the world to connect with Vietnam's history, culture, landscapes, and people through creative storytelling, while helping the nation actively engage in regional and international film networks and professional exchanges. Such promotional efforts help expand markets, increase co-production and distribution opportunities, attract foreign film crews, and enable Vietnamese works and talents to reach global audiences.
