Vietnam–Japan Festival showcases Gagaku and Nha Nhac heritage
VOV.VN - The Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, in collaboration with the Japan International Music Exchange Association, held an exchange performance “Gagaku & Nha Nhac – Heritage to the Future” on March 10 as part of the Vietnam-Japan Festival, promoting cultural and art exchange between the two countries.
The programme featured performances by a Japanese Gagaku ensemble and musicians from the Traditional Music Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
Audiences were introduced to Gagaku, recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009, and Nha Nhac, Vietnam’s royal court music, inscribed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Introducing Hue royal court music to young audiences from both countries was a highlight of the programme, underscoring shared historical heritage and traditional cultural values between Vietnam and Japan.
During the performance, artists from both countries presented a series of traditional pieces, including Ichikotsucho Netori, Konju, Karyobin, Phung Vu, Chosi, All Birds in Osaka, Bato, and the Ryoo dance, creating a vibrant space for cultural exchange through traditional music and dance.
