Vietnam Day 2026 in France marks 50 years of UNESCO ties
VOV.VN - Spokesperson of the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang announced at a regular press briefing on October 15 that Vietnam Day in France 2026 will take place from October 24-30, marking the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-UNESCO relations.
The program, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and relevant agencies, will highlight Vietnam Theater Week in France.
Ngo Phuong Ly, spouse of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President To Lam, will attend the events as a special guest at the invitation of UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesperson noted that 2026 marks a 50-year milestone in relations between Vietnam and UNESCO, serving as a special occasion to review comprehensive cooperation across culture, heritage, education, and science. This milestone carries added meaning following the historic visit by General Secretary and President To Lam to UNESCO Headquarters in October 2024, which opened new strategic directions for bilateral ties.
According to the Spokesperson, the program takes place as Vietnam-France relations continue to develop positively and substantively, particularly after the two nations elevated ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in October 2024. France serves as one of Vietnam's leading European partners, holding strengths in culture, arts, heritage, education, and training, while hosting a large Vietnamese community.
Pham Thu Hang stated that Vietnam Day in France 2026 aims to promote Vietnamese culture, country, and people to French and international audiences as well as the overseas Vietnamese community, conveying an image of a dynamic, creative, and integrated Vietnam.
Through cultural and artistic events in Paris and prestigious international spaces, the program will enhance mutual understanding, expand networks of international friends, and promote cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
A central highlight of this year's program is Vietnam Theater Week, presenting the unique values of Vietnamese stage arts, from traditional art forms to contemporary creations, to the French public and international friends.
The Spokesperson emphasized that the event showcases the depth and diversity of Vietnamese culture through theatrical language, bringing Vietnamese stage arts closer to international audiences and the overseas Vietnamese community while building connections among artists, cultural institutions, and the public.
Within the program framework, a broad range of cultural activities will celebrate 50 years of Vietnam-UNESCO relations and Vietnam-France ties. Alongside Vietnam Theater Week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate with the Hung Yen Provincial People's Committee to host a ceremony and exhibition marking the 300th birth anniversary of cultural celebrity Le Quy Don at UNESCO Headquarters.
