Tunnel: Sun in the Dark wins two awards at Far East Film Festival
VOV.VN - The historical action movie “Địa Đạo - Mặt Trời Trong Bóng Tối” (Tunnel: Sun In The Dark) recently made its mark on the international cinema stage by winning two major awards at the 28th Far East Film Festival (FEFF) 2026, held in Udine, Italy, from April 24 to May 2.
The Mulberry for best screenplay award went to the war film by director Bui Thac Chuyen. The film also received the audience award.
Director Chuyen told Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper from France that local audiences were excited to watch the film to understand more about the Vietnam War and the country.
“This year, the festival only presented three awards, and Tunnel: Sun in the Dark won two of them. It is a major recognition for the entire film crew,” he said.
Tunnel: Sun In The Dark is inspired by a true story set after 1967. It recounts the fierce resistance against the US imperialists by a 21-member guerrilla unit led by Bay Theo (played by Thai Hoa) at the Binh An Dong base in Cu Chi.
Amidst the fierce battles, the film portrays stories of love, camaraderie, and self-sacrifice for a greater cause by the soldiers living underground, while above them, US forces rain down bombs and fire.
The work reproduces the wartime drama in documentary film style, with fictional characters and drama interlaced, reminding Vietnam's young people of the sacrifices of the past.
Held annually since 1999, the Far East Film Festival (FEFF) is one of the largest and most prestigious in-depth Asian film events in Europe. Each year, the festival attracts tens of thousands of viewers and dozens of films. In 2026, FEFF brought together approximately 75 films from many countries and territories worldwide, including more than 50 films competing for awards.
