Thua Thien – Hue VBS convenes 7th congress

The seventh congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) chapter in the central province of Thua Thien - Hue took place in Hue city on March 15-16 with 1,200 delegates and dignitaries participating.

The congress elected 69 members for the VBS Executive Committee for the 2017-2020 tenure, with Most Venerable Thich Duc Thanh elected as its Chairman.

The VBS Thua Thien – Hue chapter plans to continue motivating Buddhist followers to observe law and promote Buddhist activities for the development of the religion and the nation.

Secretary of the provincial People's Committee Le Tuong Luu congratulates the congress.

In the last tenure, local dignitaries and Buddhist followers raised more than VND105 billion (US$4.62 million) to help local poor households and give gifts and scholarships to needy students, victims of Agent Orange/dioxin, build houses, and provide free health check-ups. 

The chapter has also held numerous activities to mark lord Buddha’s birthday, Vu Lan festival, and pray for peace.

A number of dignitaries have received orders, medals and certificates of merit for their contributions to the religion and the nation.
