Thousands to join Vietnam Ao Dai Week for International Women's Day celebration
VOV.VN - Thousands of women across Vietnam will dress up in Ao Dai (traditional long dress) in support of Vietnam Ao Dai Week from March 1 to 8 as they celebrate the 116th anniversary of International Women’s Day.
According to the Vietnam Women’s Union Central Committee, the event is to celebrate the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, the 1986th anniversary of the Hai Ba Trung (Trung Sisters) uprising and the 116th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8, 1910 - 2026).
The week-long event is expected to preserve and strongly spread the value of the traditional Ao Dai which is regarded as part of national cultural heritage in contemporary life.
Women's unions in localities, particularly those members who are officials, civil servants and businesswomen, are encouraged to wear Ao Dai throughout the week.
In particular, March 8 will be a special day when everyone wears Ao Dai, creating a vibrant and colourful spectacle that reflects the rich cultural identity of Vietnam across the country.
The highlight of the event this year will be a nationwide folk dance performance, held simultaneously on March 8 in public areas featuring the cultural and historical landmarks of each locality.
The folk dance performance will be held along with songs in praise of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the beloved President Ho Chi Minh, and love for the homeland.
First held in 2019, Vietnam Ao Dai Week has made a great contribution to promoting the image of Vietnamese women around the world.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the 2025 edition attracted over 3,000 people on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, and more than 47,000 people at locations across the city. The annual Ao Dai Festival in HCM City alone draws thousands of participants and is increasingly affirming its position as one of the city's prominent cultural events.
