Ethnic designer showcases heritage at Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival
VOV.VN - As part of the 2025 Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival, designer Vu Thao Giang presented her latest collection “Fragrance of Vietnam,” a heartfelt tribute to national heritage and cultural identity, expressed through refined craftsmanship and artistic vision.
Inspired by traditional embroidery and lacework, as well as ethnic brocade weaving techniques of the Tay, Nung, Thai, and Dao communities, the collection blends folk spirit with modern design. Using materials such as silk, brocade, velvet, lace, and satin, the young Tay ethnic designer brings the essence of Vietnamese heritage to life as each of her Ao Dai collection radiates grace, sophistication, and contemporary vitality.
What makes “Fragrance of Vietnam” stand out is its harmony between intangible cultural heritage and visual language. Folk melodies like Quan Ho, Ca Tru, Xam, Cheo, and Then with the Tinh lute are reinterpreted into patterns, textures, and colour tones, allowing audiences to see the sound of traditional music through fashion. Every Ao Dai becomes a “song in silk,” celebrating the gentle yet proud beauty of Vietnamese women.
“Each design should serve as a cultural ambassador, bringing Vietnam’s heritage closer to the world.” Said the young Tay ethnic designer.
To her, Ao Dai is not merely a costume, but a living heritage - a reflection of the Vietnamese soul.
Previously, Vu Thao Giang gained recognition for heritage-inspired collections such as “Vietnam in Bloom,” “The Breath of the Northeast,” “Colours of Viet Bac,” and “Shades of Heritage.” With “Fragrance of Vietnam,” she continues to affirm her creative philosophy - turning heritage into fashion, and fashion into a bridge connecting Vietnam with the world.
Through a poetic use of materials, emotion, and national spirit, “Fragrance of Vietnam” serves as a highlight of the 2025 Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival - a testament to the enduring vitality of Vietnamese heritage, which continues to evolve with modern life while preserving its soul, identity, and pride.
The 2025 Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival is running in Hanoi from November 7 to 9.
