“Skin of Youth” wins Special Jury Award at New York Asian Film Festival
VOV.VN - Skin of Youth (Ồn ào tuổi trẻ), directed by Vietnamese-American filmmaker Ash Mayfair, received the Special Jury Award in the Uncaged Award category at the 24th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), which concluded on July 27.

The Uncaged Award honors filmmakers who push the boundaries of traditional cinematic language and showcase bold artistic vision.
Skin of Youth was selected over seven other entries. The jury panel included Japanese-American actress Masumi, actor Tzi Ma, producer Michael Werner, Chinese-Filipino actor Yao, and Thai producer Banjong Pisanthanakun.
The film, which began production in 2023, represents a rare four-way international co-production between An Nam Productions (Vietnam), Akanga Film Asia (Singapore), Bitters End (Japan), and Mayfair Pictures (United States).
Set in Ho Chi Minh City, the story follows a group of young people navigating personal struggles while pursuing their dreams.
Vo Dien Gia Huy stars in the lead role as Nam. He attended a film event in the United States on July 24 to promote Skin of Youth to the North American market, where the screening was met with warm applause.
The film has garnered critical acclaim. Asian Movie Pulse described it as “bold and provocative,” while Buttered Popcorn called it “one of the most accessible Vietnamese films to reach the international festival circuit in recent years,” noting how it “shines a light into the shadow economies created by the country’s rapid development.”
