Phu Quoc celebrates 200 years of fish sauce making tradition with inaugural festival
VOV.VN - A traditional fish sauce festival, the first of its kind, is scheduled to take place from June 27 to 29 in Phu Quoc island city with the aim of promoting the region’s iconic fish sauce to both domestic and international visitors.

Speaking at a press conference on June 18, Tran Minh Khoa, chairman of the Phu Quoc municipal People’s Committee, said the festival is meant to honour the 200-year-old fish sauce making tradition that has become a cultural symbol of the island.
The event also serves as a platform to connect scientists, businesses, artists and the general public, thereby generating new value for Phu Quoc fish sauce in an era of global integration and innovation, he noted.
Highlights of the festival include an opening ceremony featuring sea- and island-themed art performances, celebrating the heritage and craftsmanship behind the traditional product.
A range of other activities will be held, including a workshop on developing the Phu Quoc fish sauce brand, a culinary competition featuring dishes made with fish sauce, folk games, and a showcase of local products, including typical fish sauce varieties and OCOP (One Commune One Product) items.
Through the 2025 edition of the festival, the city authorities are calling on businesses, residents, journalists, media outlets, and the broader public to help spread the image of Phu Quoc fish sauce across Vietnam, throughout the region, and to the wider world, thus enabling people to understand that Phu Quoc fish sauce is more than just a product. It is a reflection of identity, trust, and a long-standing commitment to quality and sustainability.6
