Phi Phong: The Blood Demon draws global attention with Hong Kong showcase
VOV.VN - “Phi Phong: The Blood Demon,” an upcoming Vietnamese horror film, has drawn significant international attention after hosting a showcase in Hong Kong (China) and securing multiple distribution deals ahead of its official release, highlighting its early global appeal.
The film’s cast and crew recently held a project showcase in Hong Kong as part of the 30th edition of Hong Kong Filmart. The event was attended by director Do Quoc Trung, producer Trang Doan, and lead actors Kieu Minh Tuan, Diep Bao Ngoc, and Doan Minh Anh.
The milestone marks the first time a Vietnamese film has organized an official showcase abroad, including at Hong Kong Filmart, underscoring the producers’ ambition to bring the project to international markets.
Held in a private setting, the showcase attracted nearly 200 guests, including international producers, film distributors, and representatives of major cinema chains across the region. Among them were Cinema XXI from Indonesia, GSC from Malaysia, and Sil-Metropole from Hong Kong. These partners are also investors in the project and are expected to play a role in its international distribution strategy.
At the showcase, director Do Quoc Trung, representatives from Bluebells Studios, and the cast presented exclusive clips for attendees which made a strong impression, leaving the audience in awe of the scale of production and international-standard quality.
Producer Trang Doan, representing Bluebells Studios, said the project combines deeply rooted Vietnamese folklore with high production values. From the outset, the team aimed to create a Vietnamese horror film capable of reaching global audiences in both storytelling and technical execution.
“With the investment and collaboration of partners such as GSC Movies, Legacy Pictures, and many international collaborators, we expect to create a cinematic experience that is both culturally unique and competitive in the international market,” said the producer.
In Vietnam, the horror film will have early screenings from April 16 to 19. It is set for nationwide release from April 24.
Apart from its domestic release during the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and National Reunification Day, the film will be scheduled for release in other countries and territories such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Hong Kong in May, followed by Taiwan (China) and North America later this year.
