Ninh Binh province enjoys colourful lantern festival

VOV.VN - A night festival featuring an array of coloured lotus-shaped lanterns was held on the banks of the Sao Khe river in the northern province of Ninh Binh on April 10.

The lantern festival dates back to the era of the Ly dynasty. The aim of the event is for festival goers to pray for peace and wealth among all people.
From a total of 20 boats pilgrims drop thousands of lanterns into the river.
A women lights a lantern before dropping it into the Sao Khe river.
Through the release of each lantern, pilgrims pray for peace.
The sight of the Sao Khe river lit up by lotus-shaped lanterns is awe inspiring.
The festival is popular with large numbers of local people and tourists in attendance.
 
Pilgrims sail their boats down the river to drop more lanterns.
The festival also proves to be a hit among children.
