The administration of Dak Lak province announced new activities for this year’s festival, including a digital content creation competition aimed at promoting the festival online, a groundbreaking ceremony for the Trung Nguyen Legend energy coffee factory, and a coffee camp.

Lai Duc Dai, deputy director of Dak Lak’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the highlights during the five-day festival will include a specialised coffee and One Commune One Product (OCOP) product exhibition fair, an international trade conference, a street festival, Lak wooden boat racing, and the Buon Don Elephant Festival.

The national - level festival is held every two years and aims to turn Buon Ma Thuot into the world’s leading coffee city, he noted.

It will also help to showcase tourism potential and investment promotion opportunities in the coffee industry. In addition, the traditional culture of ethnic minorities involving the Central Highlands Gong Cultural Space, which has been recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, will be introduced, Dai said.

Dak Lak has been dubbed the coffee capital of Vietnam and boasts the largest farming area in the country of around 210,000 hectares with an annual output of more than 520,000 tonnes.

The province's coffee industry plays an important role in local socio-economic development, with its coffee products being exported to hundreds of countries and territories around the world.
