Miss Universe Vietnam praised Huong Giang for her perseverance and inspirational journey as a singer, actress, model, MC, judge, and producer.

“Just last year, Huong Giang took on the role of producer for Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, once again affirming that she has never stopped challenging herself. In every role, she has shone as the image of a modern, strong Vietnamese woman,” stated the website.

The announcement has thrilled beauty fans as she is the first transgender woman from Vietnam to compete at this global stage. Previously, Nguyen Quynh Anh, first runner-up at Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, was widely expected to be Vietnam’s representative, but she publicly denied the speculation.

Nguyen Huong Giang, 34, first gained attention when she placed in the Top 4 of Vietnam Idol 2012. Six years later, she was crowned Miss International Queen 2018 in Thailand, becoming the first transgender woman from Vietnam to achieve such a high title at an international beauty pageant. Over the years, she has pursued a career in music, acting, and reality TV production.

Miss Universe is one of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageants, held annually and followed by millions worldwide. The organisation has broken traditional eligibility barriers, welcoming all women, including transgender women over 18 years old, regardless of height, body shape, marital status, or motherhood.

Vietnam’s best result at Miss Universe was achieved by H’Hen Niê, who made it to the Top 5 in 2018. Last year, Vietnam was represented by Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, who finished in the Top 30. The crown of Miss Universe 2024 went to Victoria Kjær Theilvig from Denmark.
