Local director Luk Van unveils two Vietnam–RoK film projects

VOV.VN - Vietnamese director Luk Van has announced two film projects in collaboration with Korean partners, Kẻ nổi tiếng (The Famous One) and (Cho thuê cha) Dad for Rent), at the launch of Rainbow Cloud Entertainment in Ho Chi Minh City on June 15.

The new company, established by Luk Van and Korean partner Rainbow Noraebang, will initially focus on training and managing young talents in music and film.

Among the projects, Dad for Rent will be a Vietnamese remake of the popular Korean film of the same name released in 2014, which has since been adapted in several countries, including Indonesia.

Luk Van shared that the film will be directed by Korean filmmaker Kim Min-jae, whose team is also working on the Indonesian version. According to the producers, they hope to bring the story to Vietnamese audiences through a localized adaptation.

Meanwhile, The Famous One is an original concept developed by Luk Van herself. The film follows a young female artist who dies under mysterious circumstances, prompting her younger sister to investigate the case a decade later. As the search unfolds, she uncovers secrets linked to 12 artists who once played important roles in her sister's life.

Luk Van revealed that the project's overall concept and treatment have already been completed. The screenplay will continue to be developed with a professional writing team before entering the production phase.

Addressing concerns about box-office pressure in an increasingly competitive film market, the director said commercial success is important but should not be the sole objective of filmmaking.

According to her, the core value of cinema lies in discovering compelling aspects of life and transforming them into meaningful stories that resonate with audiences.
