HBSO to bring successful ballet show back to stage

The HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) will bring back “Ballet with Tchaikovsky and Ravel,” one of the most successful performances of HBSO in 2016, to the HCMC Opera House on March 25-26.

The program is structured with three pieces of completely different styles of music, each with a different feel and explosion. Last year’s two shows in August and October were big hits, with all tickets all sold out.

The first part of the show is P.I.Tchaikovsky’s Serenade. The work takes audiences into a dreaming, fantasy world with a new classic ballet style.

The beautiful, excellent technical characteristics and standards of classical ballet is used freely, more liberal, less restraint, and not as strict as typically found in classical ballet.

P.I.Tchaikovsky’s Ballet Serenade is considered to be one of the most beloved romantic ballet works of the 19th century.

Under the magical light, the ballet dancers in long, shimmering blue dresses glide with great music in Tchakovsky’s Serenade. The whole work is pure beauty of music combined with choreography.

It doesn’t tell a specific story like the previous classic, nor have a perfect ending with love and happiness. Serenade has become one of the most performed works by countless companies and art troupes around the world.

Opening for the second part of the night is Dépaysement, staged by the famous French choreographer Julien Guérin for the artists of HBSO.

Julien Guérin has brought to the audiences a new artistic experience of the fresh breath of contemporary ballet, which is discovered and widespread in Europe - where he is working and gained much success in his career.

The unique ambiance is supported by visual arts presentations, combined with lighting, costumes, and especially the use of many different musical styles from classical to romantic and even the contemporary work.

Audience will have a chance to admire excellent creativity of the artists Chloé Glemot, Tran Hoang Yen, and Ho Phi Diep.

Dépaysement is about a spiritual journey as a wish which becomes a dream for a young girl (Tran Hoang Yen). In her mind, she dreams to escape from her routine to share emotions with the people she meets in her dream.

From that sleep on the sofa, she will travel and will meet her alter ego as she would talk to herself in a mirror.

The last piece in the show is Ravel’s Bolero, whose style was modern, intense, dazzling by light and strong choreography.

The music has become the most famous work in Ravel’s writing career and has inspired hundreds of film, cartoons, TV shows, commercials, and video games.

Along with the music, the performance begins with simple movements of the solo artist on the central turntable. The music gradually expanded with the participation of more instruments.

The colors become richer and the intensity grows while the dancers begin to show more and more movements. The air is heated up, and flare to the end with powerful figures created by the solo artist and more than 20 male artists in hot, daring light tones.

Sung A Lung, the central artist of the performance, is one talented artist of the HBSO Ballet who has won the Gold Medal in the National Young Talent Competition in July 2016 with “Ru dem”- choreographed and performed by himself.

Tickets to the show are priced at VND550,000, VND400,000, VND350,000, VND200,000 and VND80,000 (for students).
