Hanoi to welcome tourists with Happy Tet 2026 programme
VOV.VN - Hanoi will recreate the vibrant atmosphere of Vietnam’s Lunar New Year holiday (Tet), through the “Happy Tet 2026” programme, scheduled to take place at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel from February 6 to 10.
The programme, themed “Tet Is Happiness,” aims to showcase the capital’s traditional cultural values to local residents, domestic and international visitors, and overseas Vietnamese returning home for the holiday.
Spanning a total area of 7,000 square metres, the historical site arranges special spaces for Tet celebrations, from past to present, alongside cultural heritage and tourism destinations from across Vietnam.
A key highlight is the “Spring Market” zone, which will recreate the bustling pre-Tet atmosphere with peach blossoms, kumquat trees, apricot blossoms, Tet gifts, handicrafts, and products from traditional craft villages.
The “Taste of Tet” area will introduce visitors to Tet cuisine and customs in Hanoi and other regions. Activities include making Bánh Chưng (square glutinous rice cakes), preparing traditional Tet meals, requesting calligraphy, and sampling regional dishes from northern, central, and southern Vietnam.
Other spaces will promote Hanoi’s tourist attractions, cultural heritage, and traditional festivals, while showcasing handicrafts such as Bat Trang pottery, Ha Thai lacquerware, Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo products, Thuy Ung horn combs, and Xuan La clay figurines.
Visitors can also take part in traditional folk games, including tug-of-war, ball throwing, and human chess, while experiencing modern interpretations of the holiday in the “Tet in the Digital Age” zone, which features livestreaming, digital check-ins, virtual reality (VR 360), and AI-assisted cultural exploration.
During the five-day programme, a range of hands-on activities will be held, including Bánh Chưng wrapping, Tet jam making, flower arrangement workshops, a kite exhibition, and creative handicraft sessions allowing visitors to design modern Tet-themed decorations.
The programme will be jointly organised by the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre, the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations, and other competent agencies.
