Google Doodle celebrates the Art of Đờn Ca Tài Tử of Vietnam
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese homepage of tech giant Google currently features a group of people playing Đờn Ca Tài Tử to honour the traditional art genre from the country’s southern region as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
“On December 5 in 2013, UNESCO recognized the art form as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity,” Google Doodle wrote, displaying the artwork illustrated by guest artist Camelia Pham.
“Đờn Ca Tài Tử has been practiced since the late 19th century, and it originates from ceremonial and Hue Royal Court music. Most often practiced in the Southern region, harmonious instruments blend together to create this beautiful melody.”
“Besides a singer, the Đờn Ca Tài Tử ensemble may include a zither, stork, lute, concave guitar, song loan, flute, pipa, violin, and pliers. With all those instruments, it won’t be surprising to learn that Đờn Ca Tài Tử is almost always performed as a group,” Google Doodle introduced regarding the traditional genre of southern Vietnamese chamber music.
The website also revealed that Đờn Ca Tài Tử is normally performed in major local anniversaries, weddings, Tết (Vietnamese New Year), birthdays, and any gathering. The art genre serves to connect the community through shared culture, art, and music, that should be preserved for future generations, it suggested.
Google Doodle features special icons that temporarily replace the Google logo on the search engine's homepage.
Other Vietnamese figures and special occasions that have been honoured on Google Doodle include painter Bui Xuan Phai, the ancient town of Hoi An, Vietnamese opera cải lương, and National Day.
