Exhibition honours cultural heritage-vitality from tradition to modernity

VOV.VN - An exhibition titled “Vietnamese Cultural Heritage-Vitality from Tradition to Modernity” is underway at the Hanoi Flag Tower relic site as part of activities to welcome New Year 2026 and mark the upcoming 14th National Party Congress.

In his opening speech on December 23, Hoang Dao Cuong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasised that Vietnamese cultural heritage is a priceless treasure of the nation, crystallising the identity, intellect and enduring creativity of the Vietnamese people. He noted that in recent years, the protection and promotion of cultural heritage have consistently received close attention and guidance from the Party and the State, and have gradually been institutionalized through legal frameworks, policies and concrete action programmes.

The exhibition, he said, has a significance as it features an overall picture of Vietnam's cultural heritage. It not only honours heritage values but also spreads the pride in the society and raises people’s awareness of preserving the country's cultural heritage.

Le Thi Thu Hien, director of the Cultural Heritage Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the exhibition aims to introduce both domestic and international audiences to the outstanding values of Vietnamese cultural heritage, while reflecting achievements in the protection and promotion of tangible heritage, intangible heritage, documentary heritage and the national museum system in recent years.

According to Hien, Vietnam currently possesses a rich cultural heritage portfolio with approximately 40,000 historical and cultural relics, 147 special national relics, 9 world cultural and natural heritage sites, and thousands of national artifacts and treasures preserved in museums and relics throughout the country. These represent the enduring creative process and continuous transmission of heritage values by Vietnamese communities throughout the country’s history.

The organisers have selected items for exhibition which focus on the distinctive values of Vietnamese cultural heritage, policies and efforts to protect them, and the role of heritage in the country’s sustainable development.

The exhibition will last through to January 15.
