Emperor Ham Nghi’s paintings to be exhibited in Hue
VOV.VN - A non-commercial exhibition showcasing original oil landscape paintings by Emperor Ham Nghi, created during his years in exile, will open to the public at Kien Trung Palace (Hue Imperial City) in late March.

According to the French Institute in Vietnam, this will be the largest exhibition of its kind to date.
The event is co-curated by art researcher Ace Lê and Dr. Amandine Dabat, a fifth-generation descendant of Emperor Ham Nghi. Under the theme "Allusive Panorama / Trời, Non, Nước", the exhibition is organized by Art Republik Vietnam magazine in collaboration with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center and the French Institute in Vietnam.
This marks the second retrospective exhibition and the most extensive one ever held in Vietnam to showcase the works of Emperor Ham Nghi. More than 20 paintings from 10 private collections will be on display, having been repatriated, authenticated, preserved, and restored by leading experts.
Hoang Viet Trung, director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “Showcasing Emperor Ham Nghi’s artworks helps preserve and promote national cultural identity, allowing younger generations to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s history and culture. This, in turn, fosters a stronger awareness of heritage conservation. The exhibition also reaffirms Hue’s status as a cultural hub in Vietnam’s historical continuum.”
The exhibition coincides with a series of major cultural events in Hue, including the National Tourism Year 2025 and Hue Festival, further enriching the city’s rich cultural heritage.
