Duong Ngoc Anh wins top prize at Kyushu Music Competition in Japan
VOV.VN - Duong Ngoc Anh, a student of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, won first prize, the highest award in the vocal category, at the 28th Kyushu Music Competition 2026 held in Kumamoto, Japan.
The competition took place from March 21 to 28, drawing thousands of contestants from multiple countries. It is a reputable international music event featuring two main categories -instrumental and vocal- with a jury comprising professors and music experts.
This year, Vietnam sent a delegation of 10 students from the Vietnam National Academy of Music to compete in vocal and piano categories, including classical vocal, film music vocal, classical piano and jazz piano.
In the vocal category, held from March 21 to 24, Vietnamese contestants won several awards. Duong Ngoc Anh took first prize. Tran Thi Van Anh received a special prize, while Le Khanh Chi and Nguyen Minh Phuong won bronze and consolation prizes, respectively.
Duong Ngoc Anh is currently a first-year postgraduate student at the Vietnam National Academy of Music, studying under the guidance of Associate Professor, PhD, Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan.
At the competition, she performed Les oiseaux dans la charmille by Jacques Offenbach, drawing strong applause from the audience and high marks from the jury.
Speaking after the award, Duong Ngoc Anh said her achievement came from daily training efforts and dedicated guidance from her instructor. She also expressed gratitude to her teachers, colleagues and family for their support throughout her musical journey.
Tan Nhan, who accompanied the students to the competition, said she was proud of their performance and noted that they performed strongly compared with contestants from other countries. She expressed hope that the students would continue their efforts to pursue professional careers in classical music and move closer to the global classical music field.
