Doraemon episode set in Vietnam to stream for free on YouTube
VOV.VN - A special episode of Doraemon titled “The Gift Is a Trip to Vietnam” will be released free on the YouTube channel POPS Kids.
The episode is part of the “Doraemon Around the World” series, centred on a birthday gift Nobita prepares for Shizuka. It also helps promote the film Doraemon: Nobita and the New Steel Troops, the 45th Doraemon feature, which is performing well at the Japanese box office and is scheduled to open in Vietnam on May 22.
According to official information, “The Gift Is a Trip to Vietnam” will air at 5pm on May 23 in Japan, while its release date in Vietnam has yet to be announced. A representative of POPS Kids confirmed the episode will be available free on YouTube.
The story begins with Shizuka Minamoto expressing her wish to visit Vietnam. Nobita then plans to turn the trip into a birthday gift for her. Believing he can use the “Anywhere Door”, he turns to Doraemon for help, only to find the device is under repair.
Facing pressure to keep his promise, Doraemon and Nobita must find an alternative solution. The episode follows their efforts to make the trip happen, leading to a journey across Vietnam with their friends.
The episode features several well-known locations, including Hoan Kiem Lake, Ha Long Bay and Dragon Bridge. Vietnamese cultural elements are also incorporated through costumes and daily life scenes. Shizuka appears in a traditional Ao dai, alongside familiar images such as conical hats and local cuisine.
Notably, the episode introduces a variation of Doraemon’s gadget “Translation Bread”, allowing users to understand different languages.
Alongside the broadcast, a Doraemon-themed colouring contest is being held in both Japan and Vietnam, with selected entries expected to be featured in the programme.
The Doraemon series is adapted from the manga by Fujiko F. Fujio. The anime version, produced by Shin-Ei Animation, has aired in Japan since 1979 and now totals more than 3,000 episodes.
