Cultural event celebrates time-honoured friendship among Vietnam, Russia, and Belarus

VOV.VN - A joint cultural exchange program titled “ Về miền ký ức chung” (Shared Memories) was held at the Russian Cultural Centre in Budapest, Hungary, on October 28, co-hosted by the embassies of Vietnam, Russia, and Belarus.

The event drew Vietnamese Ambassador Bui Le Thai, Russian Ambassador Evgeny Stanislavov, and Belarusian Ambassador Vladimir Ulakhovich.

Also in attendance were Thuroczy Laszlo and Dr. Phan Bich Thien, the initiators of the gathering, along with numerous friends from Vietnam, Russia, Belarus, and Hungary, creating an emotional space for generations connected by enduring ties to the former Soviet Union.

Addressing the program, Vietnamese Ambassador Bui Le Thai emphasized that since the 1950s, many Vietnamese students and researchers have studied at Soviet universities and research institutes. Upon returning home, many became leading scientists, engineers, doctors, and experts who have contributed significantly to national development.

He affirmed that generations of former alumni in the Soviet Union have consistently served as an important bridge reinforcing enduring friendship between Vietnam, Russia, Belarus, and former Soviet states.

Expressing delight at the event, Russian Ambassador Stanislavov applauded the initiative, noting that traditional Russia-Vietnam ties are continuously developed through mutual understanding and close cooperation across multiple sectors. He added that Russia's one-year visa-free policy for Vietnamese citizens will continue to provide strong imptus for bilateral strategic cooperation in the coming period.

Sharing her emotions, Dr. Phan Bich Thien recalled arriving at a Moscow university lecture hall exactly 40 years ago, highlighting the warm reception and dedicated support of Soviet teachers and peers that greatly encouraged Vietnamese students studying far from home. She said that those years not only fostered knowledge but also shaped character, mindset, and humanistic values, adding that the Budapest gathering serves as a reunion for those sharing youth memories to further nurture bilateral friendship and solidarity.

Belarusian Ambassador V.E. Ulakhovich also praised the initiative, emphasizing decades of effective cooperation across various fields, particularly higher education and high-level workforce training. He noted that Belarusian universities have signed over 40 cooperation agreements with Vietnamese educational institutions, expressing confidence that bilateral relations will continue to grow based on human potential and close people-to-people bonds.

Within the framework of the program, delegates enjoyed special art performances and traditional cuisine, highlighting love for the homeland, the beauty of the people, and appreciation for each nation's unique cultural values. In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the event conveyed a message of mutual understanding, compassion, and sincere friendship, strengthening solidarity among the nations.
