CNN ranks Bánh mì among world’s top 25 sandwiches again
VOV.VN - Bánh mì (Vietnamese baguettes) has been ranked third among the world’s top 25 sandwiches, marking its second appearance on CNN’s global list.
CNN states that no food is more universally adored than the sandwich. “There’s hardly a country on the planet that doesn’t turn to some type of bread with something stuffed inside it to cure a craving,” it notes, adding that exploring the world’s sandwiches is, in a way, like traveling the world.
To help travelers narrow down their choices for their next trip, CNN has released an updated list of the 25 best sandwiches in the world, building on its previously published list in 2025.
According to the website, the Vietnamese delicacy Bánh mì is a culinary remnant of French colonialism. The baguette sandwich was reinterpreted to suit local tastes. Bánh mì is now sold from food carts on nearly every street corner in Ho Chi Minh City and across Vietnam, and is widely loved well beyond the country’s borders.
“The classic version is pork-based, starring chả lụa (Vietnamese-style pork roll), shredded pickled carrots, pickled daikon, cilantro leaves, mayonnaise and other ingredients. You can find variations with tofu and thinly sliced lemongrass chicken, too. The flavors are crunchy, fresh and savory,” CNN wrote.
Bánh mì is the only representative from Southeast Asia on the list. Other names in the top 25 include Pan Bagnat of France, Bocadillo de jamón Ibérico of Spain, Torta ahogada of Mexico, Tramezzino of Italy, Shawarma of the Middle East, and Muffaletta of New Orleans, USA.
