Business culture forum highlights internal driver for Vietnam’s sustainable development

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Corporate Culture Forum 2026 themed “Corporate Culture - Endogenous Resource for Sustainable Development,”was jointly held in Hanoi on October 13 by Van Hoa (Culture) Newspaper and the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (Hanoisme).

The forum marks the occasion of the 22nd Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day (October 13, 2004-October 13, 2026), looking forward to Vietnam Cultural Day on November 24 and the 70th anniversary of the founding of Van Hoa Newspaper (1957- 2027).

Opening the forum, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Huy Dung underlined the immense significance and importance of culture to the rapid and sustainable development of both individual enterprises and the nation as a whole. He noted that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is striving to build and affirm Vietnam’s cultural brand, while promoting the growth of the sports economy and tourism economy.

He stated that the entire political system has been implementing synchronized solutions to achieve this goal through three main measures. Regarding institutional building, the Government has submitted the draft Law on Cultural Industry Development to the National Assembly for consideration and discussion at the 2nd session of the 16th legislature, focusing preferential policies on promoting cultural industries as a spearhead economic sector.

Regarding investment resources, the Politburo approved a policy mandating that starting in 2026, the State budget will take a guiding role by allocating a minimum of 2% of total budget expenditure toward cultural development.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism officially launched the Cultural Industry Development Network on October 12 and announced 17 major problems facing Vietnam's cultural sector.

“We call for joint efforts from the community, multi-industry corporate groups, technology companies, and entities within the cultural industry to solve these 17 major problems. The requirement is to deliver concrete, measurable products and results within this year. These represent clear, enabling actions for the future,” Deputy Minister Nguyen Huy Dung emphasized.

Delivering the introductory remarks, Editor-in-Chief of Van Hoa Newspaper Nguyen Anh Vu sought to expand the discussion with a broader question: “If hundreds of thousands of enterprises together cultivate values of integrity, responsibility, creativity, professionalism, and the aspiration to contribute, can we gradually shape a Vietnamese business culture ecosystem, thereby helping build the national image and sharpen competitiveness.”

According to Nguyen Anh Vu, the State must build an enabling institutional environment that promotes transparent and healthy business practices. Associations need to disseminate standards and good models. Educational institutions should place greater focus on business ethics and culture alongside management knowledge. The press and media must promote positive values while helping generate social pressure against unethical business behavior. Above all, each entrepreneur must directly shape the culture of their own enterprise.

The Vietnam Corporate Culture Forum 2026 comprised two thematic sessions: "Corporate Culture in the New Development Era" and "Building Corporate Culture in the New Era and Digital Transformation," discussing the building of corporate culture associated with brand identity, core values, and competitiveness.

Dr. Tran Dinh Thien, former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics, argued that to turn corporate culture from an abstract concept into an actual growth driver, three decisive shifts are required: moving from an “administrative-formalistic” mindset to a “substantive-product” mindset; linking culture with technology and innovation; and having the State open a constructive space while businesses take charge of the momentum.

Along with this, experts discussed issues of business ethics, social responsibility, human resources management, innovation, digital transformation, and brand building in connection with corporate culture, seeking approaches that meet new development requirements.

A central objective of the forum was to affirm and enhance the role of corporate culture as an important endogenous resource for sustainable development. This direction is in line the spirit of Politburo Resolution No. 80 dated January 7, 2026, on the development of Vietnamese culture, and is concretized through Prime Ministerial Decision No. 1157 dated June 26, 2026, on the ethical and cultural standards framework for business.
