Ao Dai steps onto the London Fashion Week stage in 2026
VOV.VN - The cultural promotion project “Ao Dai Fashion Week London 2026” was officially launched on February 3, with a view to bringing the Ao dai , a cultural symbol of Vietnam, to an international fashion stage within the framework of London Fashion Week.
Carrying the message “A Runway of Heritage, A Future of Style,” the project seeks to connect culture, community and commerce, while introducing the Vietnamese ao dai to the high-end fashion scene in the United Kingdom.
The programme is held under the patronage of the Embassy of Vietnam in the United Kingdom, with the participation of a number of organisations from Europe, the United Kingdom and Vietnam, including the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
Speaking at the launch, People’s Artist Vuong Duy Bien, Chairman of the Vietnam Cultural Industry Development Association, stressed the need to view heritage not only in terms of preservation but also as part of the cultural industry, noting that the Ao Dai can become a representative creative cultural product of Vietnam on the global map.
Sharing the same view, Nguyen Viet Trieu, Chairwoman of the Union of Vietnamese Women’s Associations in Europe, said bringing the Ao Dai to international runways allows Vietnam to tell its cultural story through the language of art, thereby affirming national identity within the global creative space.
In addition to Ao Dai fashion shows by Vietnamese designers, the programme will include Ao dai parades at historic landmarks across London, along with displays of traditional handicrafts, Vietnamese cuisine and products, highlighting the Ao dai as a living heritage and creating opportunities for connection and cooperation.
According to Dang Bich Lien, former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, introducing the Ao dai to the world goes beyond cultural promotion and contributes to placing Vietnamese heritage within the flow of contemporary culture.
“Ao Dai Fashion Week London 2026” is scheduled to take place from September 19 to 21, 2026, as part of London Fashion Week, marking the first time Ao Dai collections by Vietnamese designers are presented on a fully fledged international fashion stage.
