Ao Dai parade in Slovakia celebrates Vietnam’s 80th National Day

VOV.VN - A large number of Vietnamese expats gathered at the historic Bratislava Castle in Slovakia’s capital on August 24 for an Ao Dai (traditional long dress) parade to celebrate Vietnam’s 80th National Day (September 2).

The programme, jointly organised by the Embassy of Vietnam in Slovakia, the Vietnamese Women’s Union in Slovakia, and the Vietnamese Ao Dai Heritage Club, not only honours the traditional beauty of the traditional long dress but also affirms the spiritual strength, solidarity, and national pride of the overseas Vietnamese community.

Held in a solemn atmosphere, the event attracted the participation of Ambassador Pham Truong Giang and his wife, embassy staff, representatives of organisations, and hundreds of Vietnamese women and children living and studying in Slovakia.

The parade featured graceful women in Ao Dai alongside children and participants dressed in traditional ethnic costumes representing groups such as the Tay, Thai, and H’Mong, creating a colourful and vivid tableau that brought Vietnamese culture to life in the heart of Europe.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Pham Truong Giang hailed the initiative as a meaningful effort to promote Vietnamese culture internationally.

This is not just a celebration of the Ao Dai or lion dance, but a bridge that connects the Vietnamese community abroad and shares the image of a friendly and culturally rich Vietnam with global friends, he said.

As part of a wider cultural promotion campaign, similar events are scheduled to be held in Košice (Slovakia), Liberec (Czech Republic), London (UK), and Amsterdam (Netherlands). These upcoming programmes will feature Ao Dai parades, folk performances, and other activities aimed at showcasing Vietnam’s vibrant heritage to international audiences.
