Vietnam expected to attend Women’s World Cup

There is hope that the Vietnamese women football team will join the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada for the first time.

As a point of fact, FIFA has just announced its decision to raise the number of participating teams from 16 to 24.

This means that Asia will have five representatives at the tournament instead of three, often from the top five, known as Japan, Australia, the Republic of Korea (RoK), China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), which are much stronger than Vietnam.

However, the opportunity for the Vietnamese team is still open as the DPRK is banned by FIFA as five of its players tested positive for doping in the last World Cup.

So, it has to compete with underdogs Myanmar, Thailand and Taiwan for the remaining ticket.

Phan Anh Tu, Head of Vietnam Women Football Department, says without training hard it can hardly gain a leg up on them.
