The event drew the participation of 16 delegations from embassies and foreign ministries along with 208 athletes competing in football, table-tennis, tennis and badminton.
In his opening speech, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh praised ASEAN’s development and its significant achievements over the past 45 years which have benefited all member nations and contributed to peace, stability, security, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
ASEAN is determined to build an ASEAN community by 2015 based on the three pillars including the ASEAN Political-Security Community, the ASEAN Economic Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.
ASEAN gives top priority to developing a community with people who play a central role in improving human development in both physical and mental life.
The aim of the programme is to promote specific cooperation programmes to build an ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community that will foster mutual understanding and tighten the solidarity and friendship between regional countries so they can work towards common goals.
