Documentary on AO victim nominated for Oscar

(VOV) - A short documentary “Chau, Beyond the Lines” on a Vietnamese Agent Orange victim, Le Minh Chau has become one of five Oscar nominees 2016 for the documentary category.

More than 6,000 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) voted for the list of Oscar nominees 2016 on January 14 at Goldwyn in Beverly Hills, California, the US.

The AMPAS announced five official nominees – “Body Team 12”, “Chau, Beyond the Lines”; “Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah”; “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness” and “Last Day of Freedom”.

“Chau, Beyond the Lines“ by US director Courtney Marsh tells a story about Chau, a teenager living in a Vietnamese care center for children born with birth defects due to Agent Orange. He struggles with the difficulties of realizing his dream to become a professional artist and clothing designer. Despite being told that his ambitions are unrealistic, Chau is determined to live an independent, productive life. Chau has won many awards.

Director Courtney Marsh met Chau in 2007 when she came to Vietnam to make a documentary film project for her university.

Earlier, the documentary was honoured at the Austin 2015 and the US film festival 2015.
